VCE Go Fish Game

VCE Go Fish is a fun twist on a classic game, designed to help students master “Closed” and “Vowel-Consonant-Silent <e>” (VCE) syllable types. But that’s just one way to use this deck of cards. Instructions for matching and sorting games are also included.

The deck has a total of 50 cards. Each word card features a unique, colorful fish and a single-syllable, closed or VCE word. Students collect pairs by asking a partner if they have a match to the card they hold in their hand. For example, the match for the word “mad” is “made” and vice versa. This simple, interactive game strengthens decoding skills while keeping students actively engaged.

For players who have been recently introduced to the VCE syllable type, or need a visual support to come up with the matching word, the deck includes <e> cards as well. Use them by aligning the <e> at the end of the closed syllable word and read the word that is it’s VCE match!

The 3.5” x 2.5” card deck contains:

  • 42 word cards

  • 4 <e> cards

  • 4 instructional cards detailing 3 ways to play
