How to FLOSS Like a Pro
The goal is simple: collect the most cards by correctly "flossing" your words:
The Setup: Players draw cards featuring words with missing final letters.
The Roll: Roll the specialized FLOSS die to see which letter(s) you land on.
The Rule: If the letter on the die correctly completes the word according to the FLOSS rule (doubling f, l, s, or zafter a short vowel in a one-syllable word), you keep the card!
The Win: If the roll doesn't match the rule, the card is discarded. The player with the biggest "collection" at the end wins!
💡 Pro Tip: Vowel Check!
Since the FLOSS rule only applies to words with a short vowel, use this game as a diagnostic tool! Before rolling, ask the student to identify the vowel sound. If they can hear the "short" sound, they’ll know exactly which letters they’re looking for on the die. For extra practice, use the deck as a sorting activity to group words by their final double-consonant.
